World Mental Health Day
Wednesday the 10th of October was World Mental Health Day. Talking about my mental health and mental health in general is very important. The more we hold conversations surrounding it and the more we share our own stories the less stigma is attached to the issue. I personally have experienced depression and as an observer watched with sadness my best friend suffer psychosis. I decided to record the above video to highlight the need to be open about our issues.
As an artist my experience with depression after the death of my best friend last year, really influenced my work, especially my poetry and spoken word. The video contains two works of poetry. The first written shortly after my friends first psychotic breakdown, when I tried to make sense of what he must be feeling and the second when I myself was in deep despair over his loss.
